Where is Everybody?
March 25th 2004, 00:40 CET by Charles

So, as you've probably all noticed, the site has been deader than Hulka's week old dirty socks lately.  What gives?  Did you all go out and have babies?  Did you all follow Jibble to the altar to get married?  Are you stuck in a third world country with no net connection?  Are you cheating on planetcrap?

Think of this a roll call.  Where are you, and what are you up to?  Come back to us!  The many can give you comfort.

(Note:  Voting yes for this topic will bump the monster topic off the bottom of the front page.  'sup DKI)

I was in Texas this weekend.

I'm also waiting on mgns to tell me if he's still in the D&D game or not, so I can get that going.

I'm here as usual, but I still don't post that much as usual.  I've been busy training, lifting, (now that it's getting warm) riding single track, teaching, and of course drinking. St. Patrick's Day was outstanding. I'm looking into starting up kayaking/rafting. A buddy of mine has been trying to get me to go with him since last year, and I hope I'm finally going to have time for it. I've been busy being here and there and am getting ready to start graduate school (Education) in June. Plus I have a few trips coming up were I am going to be teaching Aikido abroad; which is a cool new thing to me.

I find I spend much more time in IRC chatting with people than on the board. That being said, I don't think there's been that much going on lately. UT2K4 generated alot of noise but that's already starting to die down I think. Maybe with the SP:PT MP demo being released tommorrow, combined with Far Cry, will generate more noise to the site. There just hasn't been much in the way of gaming since the beginning of the year, as per usual. Jan-Mar is always dead. Thinks will pick up the closer we get to E3.

I suspect the lack of noise is due to people playing it, instead of talking about it.

Really, how is this different for much of the time of the last couple of years?

Seriously.  I have no idea how long I've been posting as DKI(ID, but I actually remember one of the topics on this page, which would mean I've been posting here on and off for at least five years.

The only difference I've noticed is that instead of topics struggling to reach 100 posts, they hit 1000 with ease.  Also, I'm far more annoying than I used to be, and in another five years, I'll be even more annoying than I am today.  BE PREPARED.

Oh, I agree. I think everyone is out there blasting away. But now that everyone can spend their time blasting; there is less time to be spent hanging around hyping it up as there was pre-release.

Also, what is your icon supposed to be? I can't tell.

I've had some personal stuff to attend to, but other than that I just haven't felt like I had much to talk about.  I'm not posting much anywhere these days.

I rarely post anyways but I just moved to Portland, got a terrible job, haven't been paid for that job (for about three weeks) and I'm now under investigation for stealing $5000 from said workplace.

If someone could mail me a gun with just one bullet, I would appreciate it.

Guh,

One owner.  Two employees.  She left $5000 in cash in a bag that she carried anywhere form one to four weeks before it was stolen.  She figures it had to have been stolen at the store.

In a bit of Alanis Morrisette style irony, that was money that would've been used to pay me.  She nows owes me a grand in pay.

And I'm getting not a single job offer from any where else.

Now, send that gun!

I'd like to blame everyone else...

Seriously though, I'd suggest that the reason nothing is talked about on here at the moment is two fold.  One, not much has been happening in the game industry.  Two, people refuse to talk about politics, god, or anything else that might be an interesting topic, because it has already been talked about...lame.

Other than that (be prepared for self pimping) I'm working with a great mod team for Dungeon Siege called Elemental which is just about to release their second update and living it up being a parent of two children (Never ever, ever believe anyone if they tell you are they are a parent if they only have one child).

Using a gun is a) not 100% certain and b) very irresponsible, as it leaves a ghastly mess for people to clean up.

Aside from that, there are people who have been in worse situations and not offed themselves. Let's see how you're doing a year from now!

Jafd,

a)  maybe not 100%, but good enough
b)  I'm a bitter man.  The bigger the mess, the better.

Hopefully, in a year, I'll be saving a nice, warm spot in Hell for all you folks.  Ask for the Planetcrap pool o' fire.

Moreover, suicide cleanup is big business for disaster restoration companies. Using a gun to off yourself stimulates the economy.
