Where is Everybody?
March 25th 2004, 00:40 CET by Charles

So, as you've probably all noticed, the site has been deader than Hulka's week old dirty socks lately.  What gives?  Did you all go out and have babies?  Did you all follow Jibble to the altar to get married?  Are you stuck in a third world country with no net connection?  Are you cheating on planetcrap?

Think of this a roll call.  Where are you, and what are you up to?  Come back to us!  The many can give you comfort.

(Note:  Voting yes for this topic will bump the monster topic off the bottom of the front page.  'sup DKI)

I'm assuming you mean a channel that's not #planetcrap.  I honestly don't remember seeing you in there in almost a year.

#mandog

I stopped attending #planetcrap for several reasons, some of which are still applicable, and some of which aren't.

I miss jibble. I wonder what he's doing?

I miss Jibble too, but I've seen the pictures of him and his wife and I don't want to visualize what they're doing.

I know I am, but it seems the regulars here are too bored to actually create interesting conversation and would rather engage in a witless dialog with equally boring trolls. Result: all noise, no signal. Gee, and the traffic has really dropped off. Shocker.

I tried the Pandora Tomorrow SP demo, but, uh... I dunno, it kind of really sucks? Not the engine or the graphics or the voice acting or the premise, but the fact that when people see a shadow moving through darkness, they gain X-Ray vision and unload a clip in my left eye.

HOLY FUCK SOMETHING MOVED THE AMERICANS ARE HERE MISSION OVER RELOAD FIFTY TIMES.

Ugh. Whatever. Then I get to the second demo level and it's even worse. Noises in the jungle? Unpossible! Red alert! Flak jackets! Start shooting an SMG in the dark over 100 yards and hit me in the left eye every got-damn time! Just... seriously. Developers, if you're going to establish a premise, fucking stick with it. Do I need night vision goggles to see in the dark? Okay, good, so should the bad guys. They don't pick the most handicapped person in the world to be the field operative who sneaks in and moves steathily, I assure you.

To answer Charles' question, I'm still around and posting. But when I'm not working I've been occupied with lots of things:

1. Playing games on my new Xbox
2. Working on my novel
3. Seeing a lot of movies
4. Doing yoga. No, seriously. Stop laughing at me.

I don't post around here as much any more (as if anyone's noticed).  I was unemployed for a time (when my posting numbers were higher), then I got a gig as an assistant chef (which made me keep odd hours, and reduced my post count).  After a while I was working 2 jobs when I got a tech gig again (which totally kept me away), and I gave up the chef's gig (very sad to do so) because the tech job got really busy.  Now I have some free time again, but they monitor the net at work, and so I can only post at home.

As a result I've handed the job as 'Token Black Crapper' to Hugin, as it was once handed to me by Narcopolo. And he's doing a much better job of it than I did.

What in the fuck are you talking about Bailey, the demo missions are fantasticly easy, maybe you should try not running everywhere? Nightvision certainly help you, but if you turn it off you can still see the badguys, hence, they can see you too if they get close enough and you're in enough light. THERE'S A LIGHT METRE AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT OF THE SCREEN.

For the next time you must redefine something.

I noticed that.  Once you're making your way to the escape helicopter on the first level and the alarm goes, the remaining guard comes legging down the car to exactly where you are and wastes you, even if you happen to be standing in pitch darkness or hiding behind a box.

And you should be able to interrogate everyone, not just those that further the plot.  Much wasted comedy potential there.

What in the fuck are you talking about Bailey, the demo missions are fantasticly easy, maybe you should try not running everywhere?

Considering I didn't stand up until I was running towards the Osprey, that's a useless observation.

Nightvision certainly help you, but if you turn it off you can still see the badguys, hence, they can see you too if they get close enough and you're in enough light.

Except they're sitting under reading lights in the carriage car, and I'm huddled in the pitch black at the far end of the car, crouching.

THERE'S A LIGHT METRE AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT OF THE SCREEN.

Which only makes their "discovery" of my character all the more comical when I state that it was all the way to the left.

I need some kind of ESRB rating sig to caution you that your play experiences may differ from my own.

I don't recall there being any pitch black in the cars aside from the first two. The passenger compartments are merely dimlit.. You need to sneak around the corner and get out of their line of sight, it's not hard.

For the next time you must redefine something.

I believe it more likely that this law applies to piercers rather than piercees. Particularly piercings that predate the bill. Grandfathered piercings, if you will.

Knowing this, I'm curious why you would keep coming here.  You may enjoy something strict, possibly QT3, which involves 20 posts about how the topic you've brought up has been discussed in a topic earlier in the year.  And going off topic?  That may be grounds for beheading.

I'm inclined to agree.  Otherwise, a lot of porn stars may have to avoid Georgia for the rest of eternity.  Though I don't see Georgia having a large porn industry as it is.

I'm here as usual, but I still don't post that much as usual.  I've been busy training, lifting, (now that it's getting warm) riding single track, teaching, and of course drinking. St. Patrick's Day was outstanding. I'm looking into starting up kayaking/rafting. A buddy of mine has been trying to get me to go with him since last year, and I hope I'm finally going to have time for it. I've been busy being here and there and am getting ready to start graduate school (Education) in June. Plus I have a few trips coming up were I am going to be teaching Aikido abroad; which is a cool new thing to me.

I find I spend much more time in IRC chatting with people than on the board. That being said, I don't think there's been that much going on lately. UT2K4 generated alot of noise but that's already starting to die down I think. Maybe with the SP:PT MP demo being released tommorrow, combined with Far Cry, will generate more noise to the site. There just hasn't been much in the way of gaming since the beginning of the year, as per usual. Jan-Mar is always dead. Thinks will pick up the closer we get to E3.

I suspect the lack of noise is due to people playing it, instead of talking about it.
